Lace Top & Silk Top Wig/Topper Handling Instructions (Important)
Proper handling and care are essential to preserve the integrity, longevity, and wearability of lace top and silk top wigs.
Handling & Placement
-
Never lift, hold, or carry the wig by the lace or silk top.
-
Always place your hand gently inside the wig and handle it only by the wefted or hand tied cap areas.
-
Support the wig from underneath when putting it on or taking it off.
-
Avoid pulling, stretching, or gripping the lace or silk top in any way, ever.
Lace and silk tops contain delicate, hand-tied knots. Improper handling can loosen knots, weaken the lace or silk, and lead to shedding or damage. Our lace tops are single knots meaning one hair is tied to each tiny hole.
Washing & Water Use
-
Never use a handheld sprayer or direct water spray through the lace or silk top.
-
Do not allow water to be forced through the lace from above or below.
-
High-pressure or direct spray can loosen knots and cause hairs to loop or pull through to the underside of the cap.
When washing, allow water to flow gently over the hair lengths only, keeping pressure away from the lace and knot area.
Product Use
-
Do not apply oils, leave-in conditioners, sprays, knot sealers, styling products, or detanglers to the lace top, silk top, or knot area. Do not use any product with oils in it on the silk top, lace top or anywhere near lace/knots.
-
Product buildup—especially oils and alcohol-based products—can dry the lace, loosen and weaken knots, & cause premature shedding and/or damage.
-
We do not recommend using knot spray, lace glue, lace melt or any other product made for lace on our wigs as it can dry, loosen and/or weaken the knots and lace, which can make them fragile. It can also make the knots fall out by being pulled. (We have personal experience seeing this damage, therefore we do not recommend their use on our wigs. Many knot sprays contain pure alcohol.
-
Condition and treat mid lengths down only, UNDER ear tabs down, keeping all products far away from the lace and delicate knots.
-
The best way to protect your lace/knots is to have a silk liner put in (we offer these for items sent into our wig hospital!) to help prevent head/scalp oils/sweat from loosening or damaging your delicate knots.
General Care
-
Handle the wig VERY gently at all times.
-
Brush carefully, with a very wide tooth comb only, supporting the hair near the cap to avoid tension on the knots.
-
Do not brush when wet as this can pull on the knots
-
try to keep your chosen part line the same throughout the wash (this will help with styling once dry)
-
We do not recommend using heat to dry
-
When not in use, store the wig properly on a stand or laid flat to avoid stress on the lace or silk.
-
applying heat: We recommend under 250 degrees Fahrenheit only as higher heat can damage the delicate hair.
