Lace Top & Silk Top Wig Handling Instructions (Important)
Proper handling and care are essential to preserve the integrity, longevity, and wearability of lace top and silk top wigs.
Handling & Placement
• Never lift, hold, or carry the wig by the lace or silk top.
• Always place your hand gently inside the wig and handle it only by the cap areas.
• Support the wig from underneath when putting it on or taking it off.
• Avoid pulling, stretching, or gripping the lace or silk top in any way.
Lace and silk tops contain delicate, hand-tied knots. Improper handling can loosen knots, weaken the lace or silk, and lead to shedding or damage that is not repairable. Our lace tops are single knots meaning one hair is tied to each tiny hole.
Washing & Water Use
• Never use a handheld sprayer or direct water spray through the lace or silk top.
• Do not allow water to be forced through the lace from above or below.
• High-pressure or direct spray can loosen knots and cause hairs to loop or pull through to the underside of the cap.
When washing, allow water to flow gently over the hair lengths only, keeping pressure away from the lace and knot area.
Product Use
• Do not apply oils, leave-in conditioners, sprays, knot sealers, or styling products, detanglers to the lace top, silk top, or knot area. Atleast a few inches away to be sure none gets on that lace!~
• Product buildup—especially oils and alcohol-based products—can dry the lace, weaken knots, and cause premature shedding. We do not recommend using knot spray as it dries the knots and lace which can make them fragile.
• Condition and treat mid-lengths to ends only, UNDER ear tabs doen keeping all products away from the lace and knots.
General Care
• Handle the wig gently at all times.
• Brush carefully, supporting the hair near the cap to avoid tension on the knots.
• Do not brush when wet as this can pull on the knots
• try to keep the part the same throughout the wash
• We do not recommend using heat to dry
• When not in use, store the wig properly on a stand or laid flat to avoid stress on the lace or silk.
Important Notice
Damage caused by improper handling, washing, water pressure, product misuse, or failure to follow these care instructions is considered user-caused damage and is not covered under any warranty.
By purchasing and wearing a lace top or silk top wig, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to follow these care and handling guidelines.

Lisa & Grace
short answer is......YES and NO
Only Virgin or European hair can be lightened (non-factory dyed colors)
Factory dyed wigs can be darkened only (low lights, toning etc)
*Please contact us if you have any questions about customizing your Lisa Grace Wig *OR* other brand wig.
*Please ONLY take your wig to a licensed cosmetologist who has extensive knowledge of working with wigs. There are so many factors that are very unique to wigs.... that do not apply to bio hair care. We do also recommend (besides us lol) Kerry of New Wave Hair co. who is an amazing colorist.
Wig Longevity & Ongoing Care Expectations
The lifespan of a human hair wig varies widely and depends on many factors. Because each wig and wearer is different, it is not possible to guarantee a specific lifespan. Some wigs last month+, others years or even several years — care, wear frequency, and handling all play a significant role.
Factors That Help Extend the Life of Your Wig
The following practices can significantly improve longevity:
• Rotate your wigs whenever possible
Having more than one wig to rotate reduces daily wear and stress on any single piece. We recommend 4 if you can swing it! Buying used is a great way to save money...
• Handle your wig gently at all times
Lace tops and silk tops are delicate and should be treated with care. never hold by the lace or silk top.
• Brush carefully around lace and silk areas
We recommend a very wide-tooth comb for daily brushing, especially near the top and hairline. We do not recommend brushes or anything other than very wide tooth comb. Amazon sells these inexpensively and many will get one in their box from us!
• NEVER and I repeat NEVER EVER use oils and conditioners near knots, lace, or silk tops. Nothing with oils in it
Oil-based products, heavy conditioners, sprays, and buildup can loosen knots and weaken lace or silk. This can ruin a wig even after one time mistake!
• Expect ongoing maintenance
Human hair wigs require continued care—just like biological hair. Over time, most wigs will need:
*Color refreshing or toning
• Trims
• Deep conditioning (from below the ear tabs downward)
• Occasional ventilation may be needed to replace hair within the cap Be CAREFUL with the lace tops or silk tops!
*We offer these services, and our price list is available on our website.
• Do not discard a wig simply because it has issues
If you love the fit and hairline, many problems are repairable.
OR keep it for yard work, sweaty activities and also keep in mind if you head tends to be sweaty/oily this can also make those precious knots loosen and fall out
• mishandling the ends of the lace even once can damage the fragile lace.
• Hair can often be ventilated back into the cap
• Color and dryness can often be corrected and is expected with wear
Washing, Drying & Heat Use
• Allow your wig to air dry whenever possible
• We do not recommend blow dryers
• Never use heat without a heat protectant (applied only to the hair lengths — never on lace or silk)
• Keep all heat tools below 300°F
• Heat can and will fade color over time, especially lighter shades
Activities to Avoid
• Do not wear your human hair wig in:
• Pools
• Spas
• The ocean
• High-sweat or water-heavy activities
• no sunscreen use where hair will hit it.... it will likely discolor the hair
For these situations, we strongly recommend using a synthetic or lower-cost wig instead.
Realistic Lifespan Expectations
• Lace top wigs: often average around 1 year due to the fragile nature of lace
• With rotation and gentle care, some can last 2–3+ years
• When worn daily as a sole wig, lifespan may be just weeks to months
*Silk top wigs: typically last 1–2 years or longer with proper care
We have personally recolored and refreshed iWigs that were 2–5 years old and still going strong with proper maintenance — sometimes all they needed was a major “spa day.”
Our Honest Recommendation
If possible, we recommend owning at least 3-4 wigs and rotating them.
Personally, I try to add one new wig to my collection each year when I can — I know these beauties are an investment.
Having:
• Multiple wigs for rotation
• A less expensive or synthetic wig for high-activity days
can dramatically extend the life of your higher-end pieces.
Final Note
Ultimately, the life of a wig can range from weeks to months to years, depending on wear frequency, handling, care, and maintenance. We are always happy to share what has worked for us and guide you through proper care options.
